National Higher Education strike!
This year there has been a lot of news about funding cuts in higher education: From plans to fire lecturers to closing down courses or even entire study tracks, all in the name of efficiency and austerity…
Because of this we already did a relay strike starting in Leiden the 10th of March this year. This worked: lay offs were canceled and the austerity measures were reduced a little: Strikes work!
Unfortunately though, this was not the end of the funding cuts: many programmes are still slated to be cut. While the current government budget was accepted, we did just have elections - and that means we are now waiting for a coalition government to be formed.
This formation period is a critical one for education: when the parties eventually agree to co-operate in a coalition they first decide on a rough outline of policy to execute. It is our responsibility to make sure education gets more, not less funding in that policy agreement.
How are we doing this? By going on strike! December 9th will be the National Higher Education strike: do not go to study or work at the university! Instead, join us in Amsterdam at Dam Square to make our demands heard: More funding for education! No more cuts!
When?
Tuesday December 9th 2025
Where?
Dam Square, Amsterdam (from 12:00 noon)
